Termez is a city which is located in the south of Uzbekistan close to the borders of Afghanistan. Termez, the hottest city of Uzbekistan, has an approximate population of 140 thousand. The city is located on the bank of the Amu Darya River and the majority of the population consists of Uzbeks and Tajiks. The rest are Russians and Turkmen.

The city served as a bridge between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan in history, and was later linked to Uzbekistan. Al-Tirmidhi, scholar and collector of Hadith, was born in this city and took his name from this city. The name of the city was given by the Greeks who came here with Alexander the Great. Termez, meaning thermos, means hot place in Greek. Important places of the city; the palace of Termez rulers, Zurmala Tower, Abu Isa Al-Tirmidhi Tomb, Sultan Saodat Museum and Buddhist monasteries.
