The city’s first airport, Don Mueang International Airport, is a regional commuter flight hub and low-cost airline hub.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport handles the largest amount of international passengers entering the city, handling over 53 million passengers in 2012. Bangkok is a city with a population of 8 million. Like other South Asian countries, transportation within the city can be chaotic. However, transportation to and from the airport is extremely advanced and comfortable.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport

Transportation to Phnom Penh City Center from Airport

Phnom Penh Intl. Airport

Phnom Penh International Airport is located about 10 kilometers from Phnom Penh city center. The distance between the airport and the city center is short and therefore there are many vehicles that can provide transportation for passengers. You can reach Phnom Penh city center in 20-40 minutes with three wheeled motorcycles named Tuk tuk, normal motorbikes, private, shared or airport taxis, city buses and car rental options.

Tuk Tuk

Tuk Tuks, the most popular transportation vehicle in India, is a practical and fast means of transportation that is most frequently used by locals and foreigners in Cambodia. With these 3 wheeled vehicles, which can only be seated by 2 adults, you can quickly get to the city center without losing too much time in the traffic. It is really cheap to go to the city center by tuk tuk which you can get from Phnom Penh International Airport. Another advantage of using these vehicles is that you will be charged a fixed fee ($ 9), regardless of where you will go to in the city center. In some exceptional cases this figure can be as low as 6 and 7 dollars. The tuk tuks are not as comfortable and reliable as taxis and buses, but they certainly provide quick access.

Motorcycle

When you arrive at Phnom Penh International Airport, get out of the terminal and you will see motorcycles that will take you to the city center for a certain fee. The cost of reaching the city with these transportation means varies between 2 and 7 dollars depending on where you are going. Although the motorcycles that are attached to the airport do not ask a figure below 7 dollars, this fee can be reduced to 2 dollars if you get on normal motorcycles. Motorcycle taxis are also a preferred method of transportation, depending on the size of your baggage. After 30-35 minutes, you can reach Phnom Penh city center from the airport. Due to the fact that it is a little less comfortable but much cheaper, most of the tourists who come to Cambodia prefer this transportation method.

Bus

There are buses every 15 minutes from Phnom Penh International Airport to the city center. You can get to the city center in about 40 minutes by taking bus no. 03 from the airport. City buses, which are cheaper than other means of transportation, have a total of 20 stops between Phnom Penh International Airport and the city center. It is possible to get to the most central points of the city including the Central Market, Plaza Market, Phnom Penh Water Park and Boyoung by taking the bus. You have to buy the tickets from the airport for between 0,37 and 1 dollar to get on the buses that run from 05:30 to 20:30.

Taxi

Those who want to reach Phnom Penh International Airport by taxi will see 3 different taxi types. These include airport taxi, regular taxis, and the shared taxis. Depending on your budget and time constraints, you can choose your preferred method and you will be able to reach the city comfortably. Shared taxi prices usually start at $ 2 per person. In just 10-15 minutes you can reach Phnom Penh city center. Some of the private taxi companies are Makara Taxi (+855887777327), Global Taxi and Phnom Penh Taxi Service (+85510978889). You may have to pay a high fee of $ 17 if you take the private taxis. But you can reach the city center by giving $ 10 with a little bargain. The airport taxi only provides transportation between Phnom Penh International Airport and the city center and costs $ 12 for those who want to go to the city center, Wat Phnom or Riverside, $ 15 for places like BKK, Russian Market and $ 18 for those who want to across the river and go places like Chroy Changvar. You can get to the city center in 20-15 minutes by taxi; this time can be shortened when there is less traffic.

Car Rental

If you want to rent your own car and go from the Phnom Penh International Airport to the city center with it, you can evaluate multiple alternatives at the airport terminal. You can browse a large number of domestic and foreign car rental companies serving at the airport terminal before your flight and get a discounted service by making a pre-reservation. If you plan to stay longer in the city for than few days, we recommend you to rent a car. In this case, you may have a chance to go to nearby cities.
