About Adana

Adana is one of Turkey’s largest cities, with a population of 3.45 million inhabitants. Situated in the Mediterranean region, Adana experiences the highest year-round temperatures than any other city of Turkey. While Adana enjoys a temperate climate in the winter, it becomes scorchingly hot and dry in the summer.

Places to visit in Adana include Tepebağ Höyüğü (Tepebağ Mound), ruins of the oldest known city in the Çukurova Region; the Seyhan River, which offers wonderful scenery; Taşköprü (Stone Bridge), which dates back to Roman times; and Kazancılar Çarşısı (Bazaar of Cauldron-Makers), which you can find in the vicinity of the Büyük Saat (Great Clock Tower). Other must-sees for those travelling in the area are the Ramazanoğulları Konağı (Ramazanoglu Hall) from when Adana was the capital of the Ramadanid dynasty ; Çarşı Hamam (Bath of the Bazaar), built by Piri Pasha and the biggest bathhouse in the region; Irmak Hamam (Bath of the River), with water supplied from the river; and Yeni Camii (New Mosque) constructed in the 1700s.

Adana can be reached by air, rail and road. The city has two airports: the Şakirpaşa Airport, open to civilians, and the military-use Incirlik Airport. Traffic congestion is not an issue in places other than the city center of Adana, where a subway line with 13 stations facilitates inner-city transportation.
