About Belgrade

Belgrade, the capital and largest city of Serbia, is home to approximately 1.41 million residents as of 2024. Situated at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, it serves as the country's political, cultural, and economic hub, renowned for its historical architecture and vibrant nightlife.

The city experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot, humid summers and cold winters. Summer temperatures often reach up to 30°C, while winter temperatures can drop below freezing, with occasional snowfall. The most favorable time to visit Belgrade is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is mild and pleasant.

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, located approximately 18 kilometers west of the city center, serves as the primary gateway for international travelers. While direct flights from major Saudi Arabian cities to Belgrade are limited, several airlines offer connecting flights. For instance, Saudia operates flights to Belgrade with layovers in cities like Istanbul or Dubai.

Etihad Airways also offers flights from Saudi Arabia to Belgrade, typically connecting through Abu Dhabi.

Belgrade's culinary scene reflects its diverse cultural influences, featuring traditional Serbian dishes such as ćevapi (grilled minced meat), sarma (cabbage rolls), and ajvar (pepper-based condiment). The city's numerous kafanas (traditional taverns) and modern restaurants also offer a variety of international cuisines. A popular local beverage is rakija, a fruit brandy commonly enjoyed as an aperitif.

Tourists in Belgrade can explore numerous attractions that highlight the city's rich history and culture. The Belgrade Fortress, overlooking the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, offers panoramic views and insights into the city's past. Knez Mihailova Street, a bustling pedestrian zone, is lined with shops, cafes, and historical buildings. The Church of Saint Sava, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world, showcases impressive architecture and religious art.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Ada Ciganlija, a river island turned peninsula, features beaches, sports facilities, and recreational areas. The nearby Avala Mountain provides hiking opportunities and a chance to visit the Avala Tower, offering expansive views of the city and surrounding landscapes.

Saudi Arabian citizens are required to obtain a visa prior to traveling to Serbia. The visa application process typically involves submitting necessary documentation, such as a valid passport, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds, to the Serbian embassy or consulate. It's advisable to initiate the visa application well in advance of the planned travel dates to accommodate processing times.
